It's Wednesday?

hahaha, totally missed the fact that it was Wednesday until... well about 10 minutes ago! Also, Happy Leap Day! How nice to get an extra day this year! :)

Anyway, I only have one thing to show as progress this week...

The Flower girl dress

Which is not a traditional flower girl dress. The theme for the wedding is "Vintage Circus" and the flower girl is wearing a miniature circus outfit!! I think it's coming out very cute!!

I am doing a final fitting today, and then I will be adding the feathers on the back! So, I'll probably be able to show this off in a few days!!

Happy WIP Wednesday! Linking up to Freshly Pieced!

Because this seems emotionally better. For me. :) Here goes the first round:

(Wow, the color on this picture is really off...)

Flower Girl Dress: the bodice is well under way!

I will be adding the skirt, tulle, and feathers pretty soon! It's turning out pretty cute! :)

The Baptism Dress

Okay. Okay. Your wish, my command. After several requests (demands) of family members and friends, I am happy to present - the Princess's baptism dress!!!!

There is so much that I am proud of with this dress! First off - it is my own design! I used some pattern pieces on the bodice, the yoke and neck, but the rest - the bodice itself, and the sleeves, I came up with on my own.

The Ruching was really fun to try and worked way better than I expected! It is a beautiful look and I look forward to using this technique again soon! The sleeves I did a tulip design. I love this type of sleeve! It is very forgiving and really easy to put in!!

The skirt is also totally my own design! I knew that I wanted to do the pick-ups from the first time I thought of doing her dress. I searched for how-to's and found very few, and only one that was useful. (It is found here). But even then, most of this was trial and error. I may do a pick up tutorial of my own sometime...

The main thing to remember with pick-ups (and probably all of sewing, really) is to step back and look at the bigger picture. I nearly drove myself mad while I was down pinning them up. It's WAY too easy to over think the pick-ups. Once I stepped back, it wasn't so bad! :)

The fabric - Dupioni Silk. AKA - Heaven. Seriously. Silk is a dream to work with! **sigh**

So, there it is in all it's glory! I know these pictures aren't great, but we are going to get her pictures taken professionally in a few weeks, so when I get those, I'll post really good pictures! :) Needless to say - she feels like a princess!

Liebster Award!

Melinda, over at the ever inspiring blog Tilda's Twisted Life, has given me a blog award!! How sweet is that?!?!

This award is given to favorite blogs with under 200 followers. The Liebster Rules are:
1. Post about your win on your blog.
2. Link back to the blogger who presented you with the award.
3. Copy and paste the award to your blog.
4. Present the Liebster Award to 5 blogs that have less than 200 followers that you think deserve to be recognized.
5. Let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
Picking only 5 blogs to pass this award to was kind of hard, but here are the blogs that I wanted to share this with...

1 - Danny at Mommy for Reals. She is one of my Beejeebers gals!!
2 - Jamie Lee at Busy Bee Quilts. Another of my Beejeeber girls!
3 - Terri at QuiltNCards (she has been doing a whole bunch of Harry Potter quilt blocks. She is my daughters hero!) :)
4 - Strbrte at Beer Budget Decor (I. Love. This. Blog! She is a great friend from high school, a cancer survivor, and awesome decorator!! Check it out for sure!)
5 - Aurelie at Night Sew. I love this gal too. We have been friends for a long time. Last year we ran a 10K together. Here's a picture of us. Please note - I'm the one with my feet firmly on the ground! ;)

hahaha! I just love her! She is a super talented seamstress and is the person who got me interested in sewing! Check her out!

Thanks again to Melinda for this award!! How fun!!

My Skirt!

Okay, so I finished this a few weeks ago, but just today got a few pictures!

I am thrilled with this skirt! It's so fun and girly!

I used THIS tutorial, that I found on Pintrest (All Hail Pintrest!) It is a great tutorial, easy to follow, and yields a wonderful skirt!! My daughter wants me to make her one now. I think I will! :)

Speaking of my daughter, how about another little sneak peak at the baptism dress? It is almost completely done and I am THRILLED with how it has turned out! I will post it all finished up SOON!!

I know, right?

Also, I just found out that I have been given a blog award!! I'll post about that tomorrow, but I want to thank Melinda, of Tilda's Twisted Life, for thinking of me!! Thanks girl!!

Sneak peek...

My awesome hubby took the kids out for a Daddy day on Saturday so that I could have an epic sewing day!! I made great progress on the baptism dress. It is all constructed, but we still have some trim work to finish. Here's a sneak peek...

I know. It's beautiful, and I can't wait to show it off when it's all done!! This is the first time I have attempted ruching like this, and I am thrilled with how it came out!

As an aside, check out the Valentine's treats we made for the little man's preschool party...

They're Super! :)

WIP Wednesday - "Oh, I have a blog?" edition

Tell me if this is true for anyone else - sometimes Tuesday is my most (and sometimes only) productive day, just so I have anything to post about on Wednesday. Anyone else? :)

This week lacked in productivity. Due in part to the fact that I lost my only pair of glasses and am now reduced to wearing those awful Kmart reading glasses until my new ones come in. Bleck.

Anyway, last Wednesday, I did finish my skirt, and I Looooooove it, but I have yet to get even a reasonably good picture of it!!! I will post one as soon as I can get one!! It's a great skirt!

Yesterday, I made this weeks Skill builder block - #25 - Wonky Log cabin.

This was an extremely fun block to make! I wasn't sure it I would like this improv style, but I did!! I think I want to make another one...

Also this week, I did manage to FINISH off the last set of HSTs for E's King Size Zig Zag quilt!! Can I get a Hallelujah!!?!!!

This is what 763 HSTs look like. And I only had a total of 5 HSTs that were not usable. I think that's a pretty low percentage! So, the hard part is done, and now I will set this aside for a moment as I concentrate on making the two dresses that I must get done ASAP! I am going to get the baptism dress cut out today if it kills me. (And it might! lol!) Wish me luck!

WIPs!

Hello, February!!! Wow. Where did January go? Anyway, let's get to it...

Beejeebers

Finished the Trivial Pursuit block (well, I still may add some detail...) and assigned the rest of the group game themed blocks! I am so so so excited!!!

E's King Size Zig Zag

LOTS of progress here!! I have 5 sets finished, and the 6th and final set is sewn and pressed, just needs to be trimmed!!! YEEHAW!!! The hard part is nearly over! :)

I have to say, though - you would think that I would get better as I went along, but set #5 had more "Whoopsies" than all of the previous sets combined. Weird.

So, I laid out a few to get a basic idea of the pattern... and I think it's going to be awesome!

What do you think?

Baptism Dress

No progress, except I finally measured her and decided on sleeves. That's good, right?

Skirt

I decided to make myself a cute skirt. It is coming along well, and is going to be super cute!

That's all!! Be sure to check out all of the WIPs over at Freshly Pieced!
