WIP Wednesday!

Here we are at Wednesday again!! I am so happy to have some progress to report!! I have actually made a bunch of progress that I am SOO excited about!!

First up - My Skill Builders Sampler top is almost done!! I have it all together except for the borders! I am sooooo excited and love how it is coming together! :)

YEA!!

Next up - C3PO is cut out! It should come together pretty quickly, which is nice. I still need to figure out how to do the hood, but we'll get to that...

Last, my super secret quilt is coming along! I've got the words all appliqued on, so now I just have some decorations left to applique around the edges! I am loving it and can't wait to share it with everyone! :)

Well, that's all for now!! Be sure to stop in and check out all the WIPs at Freshly Pieced!!

It's Wednesday!! WIP it!!

I am posting WIP Wednesday... on Wednesday! It must be a good week... ;)

Here is what's going on...

1 - I did manage to repair my Bottled Rainbow Quilt!

All those little pieces are firmly back in place, she got a good washing, and I am happliy back to nightly snuggle time!! I love you, Bottled Rainbow...

2 - Beejeebers October Block - she asked for circles... then circles she shall get!

I still need to sew them down, but it's only the 3rd and it's almost done! Yea!

3 - M's super secret quilt

This quilt is 100% applique. This week, I managed to cut out all 95 pieces to be appliqued. Seriously. I have problems. It's going to be awesome, though! :)

4 - Halloween Costumes...

I got the fabric for C3PO. That's it.

No progress this week on:
Sashing for Skill Builders sampler
Star Wars Apron
Game Night Quilt
Dress #1 and #2.

So that's all for now. I probably won't sew much today... The Mark of Athena came out yesterday... so today I'll be getting my Percabeth reunion on... ;)

Happy stitching! Be sure to check out all the WIPs at Freshly Pieced!

Beejeebers September Block

I finally feel like I am getting caught up!!! Yea!!

Today I made our September block for the Beejeebers Quilt Bee. It was SUCH a fun block to make! I love everything about it!!

So fun, isn't it?! The tutorial for the block can be found HERE.

So, I missed the WIP Wednesday post yesterday, so I thought that I would take a minute to at least list my current WIPs to help me continue to get caught up with everything...

In order of importance (or, at least the order in which I am going to do them, lol!)

1 - Repair Bottled Rainbow.

Sadly, my BR has seen better days. It is amazing how fast a quilt can get beat up when it is used every single day. A few of the pieces are in need of restitching, and a few places on the binding need some repair. It really shouldn't take too long. I hope not, because I miss snuggling with it every night!

2 - Halloween Costumes - it's that time of year again! My kids are completely into Star Wars this year, so watch for C3PO and Princess Leia costumes soon! I still don't know what I am going to be...

3 - M's Quilt. This is a super secret project that I am SOOOOO excited about! More to come! This quilt shouldn't take too long to finish! :)

4 - Skill Builder Sampler

I need to cut the sashing (still) and sew the top together. It has been waiting for weeks now. Sad. Soon, though!!

5 - Apron - my little man's old apron is way to small, so I will be making him a new one. In Star Wars fabric, naturally!

6 - Game Night Quilt - waiting to be basted and quilted!

7 - Dress #1 - Navy blue/lace. I am super excited for this dress. The pattern is awesome and I LOVE the fabric I got for it! Can't wait to start!

8 - Dress #2 - Grey/black. I bought the pattern for this one about 3 years ago. I have all the fabric. It's been waiting a long time. I suppose it can wait a little longer...

So that's what's on tap for the next... little while. Or long while. We'll see... :)

WIP Wednesday!

Last week I missed my WIP Wednesday post. It was Friday before I even realized it!!! Why? School started last week!!! It was a busy week! I had actually gotten a bunch done last week, and even more this week, so I have lots of fun stuff to show you!! Let's get to it!

Game Night Quilt

I finished the back! It's a GIANT chess board! I am loving how it came out!!

**my computer isn't loading pictures at the moment. I grabbed a few from my flickr, but the other will have to wait until later! Sorry!**

Maxi Skirt

I have been wanted a Maxi Skrit for some time, but kept putting it off or whatever. I almost bought one, but the $25 price tag wasn't really my speed - especially as I wasn't totally sure I would wear it much if at all! So, with a 50% off coupon in tow, I went and bought some jersey knit and set out to make one. I used THIS tutorial from Elle Apparel. It only took me about an hour!

(picture to come!)

And the verdict - I may never stop wearing this! It is SO comfy!! Total WIN!

Life Baby Quilt

A friend asked me to make THIS baby quilt for her to give to a friend, in yellow and greys. I was so excited, as this is a quilt I have wanted to make!!

Beejeebers August Block

**Shake it like a Polaroid Picture**

Beejeebers August Block

Isn't this fun?!? I love this block! The "pictures" are only 2 inches finished! Such a fun block to make!! Tutorial can be found HERE!

Niece's Baptism Dress

My sister asked me to make a baptism dress for my niece and I am only too happy to do so! I have the pattern and fabric, but that is as far as I have gotten! I am planning on cutting it out today! :)

So, now for some tragic news... as I began quilting the Life quilt, something happened to my machine. The bobbin case broke!! It isn't a huge problem, but the part will take 2 weeks to arrive!! AUGH!! So, I took the machine in for cleaning/service and that little repair. I've got nothing for 2 weeks. Well, that's not true. I have my old machine (if it still works... really, who knows...) and my neighbor offered to let me borrow hers (and I probably will!). But as it stands now - I am on hold for a while! Yuck.

Well, that's all for now!! Happy WIP Wednesday!! Linking up to Freshly Pieced!

WIP Wednesday... sort of...

So... I did get some done this week. I got the back of the game night quilt started... But that's all.

So, in lue of a real WIP post, I am going to share some of what I've been doing instead of sewing...

Fact about me: I love the Olympics. I mean, I love the Olympics. I love the Olympics the way most people love Christmas. Every 4th year, I want to buy a giant TV and never stop watching the epic display of human awesomeness. LOVE!!!

So, with the 2012 London games starting, I found myself in full Olympic fever. And, because I was unable to pack up and move to London for two weeks, I settled on hosting our own family Olympics instead!

***Que Theme Music***
The Events:
Javelin!

Discus!

Fencing!

Archery!

Marble Racing! (I think this one could be running?)

Shot Put! (Which, as you can see was really just a water ballon fight...)

Kayaking!

Finally, our own Olympic Torch!

Cupcake cones! With a frosting flame! Yes, they were really, really good! :)

Here's to all the Olympians!!! Next time - I'm totally going to Rio...

Happy WIP Wednesday, everyone!! Be sure to head on over to Freshly Pieced!!!

WIP Wednesday!!

This has been a GREAT week for sewing!! Not that I spent as much time sewing as I would have liked, but I did get some things done that I am super duper excited about!! :)

But first - a few little bits...

This week I did some fabric shopping! It's been a while, and I am glad I got to buy a few things...

I just loved these fabrics for my stash!! I also got some fabric for a dress! I'm so excited!

Second - this is M. She is my sewing student. This week we went over how to put in a zipper. This picture is of her FIRST try...

I know. I still don't do it that well! She's a natural!

Finally - and this is the BIG one!! I finished the top of my Game Night Quilt!!!! It. Is. Amazing! I cannot thank the ladies of Beejeebers enough for the amazing blocks that they did for me! So, here she is...

I know. Amazing, right?!?  Once I get it all the way done, I will do a little feature on each block, because they all deserve one! They are truly wonderful! I am now planning out the back - which will be a chess board! Too fun!

Also, be sure to check back on Friday! I am hosting a GREAT giveaway!! Yipee!

Thanks for stopping in! Be sure to check out all of the WIPs at Freshly Pieced!

WIP Wednesday

Once again, very little was done this week. I promise, once summer is behind us, this blog won't be such a drag! :)

I did manage to do a few little things:

Utility Bags: I finished all 10 bags, and they turned out great! I haven't taken pictures yet, but will get those up tomorrow!!

Game night:

I did get some prep work done. There are some blocks that came out a little bit small, so I am trying to figure out the best approach here. I think I know what I am going to do, so some sewing will get done on this today!

Swimsuit alteration:

My main project of the week: altering my 8 year old's swim suit. Okay, I know that I am very conservative, but this year has been a swimsuit nightmare. I'm sorry - I don't want my daughter wearing a suit that is trying to make her look like a mini woman. We have tried 3 times to get a decent suit and each time it has been to low cut, to high cut, or just plain inappropriate. Finally, I found one at Downeast Outfitters that was very, very close to what we were looking for. BUT - My daughter is very tall, so the top was, once again, too short. That's when I realized: I can fix this. I sacrificed one of my swim suit in the process, but I managed to sew a band around the bottom of the top and yea!! She now has a suit that looks cute and covers her in an appropriate way. I have a feeling this is going to be the norm every summer. I may just try making our own swimsuits... we'll see. :) So here is the finished product.

Well, that's all! Check out all of the WIPs over at Freshly Pieced!! :)

WIP Wednesday!

Wow! It's been 2 weeks since my last post. Why? Because Summertime continues to kill me!! lol! But really - we've been having fun and doing a lot of running around, but sadly, that translates into much less sewing time. Quick story - yesterday my hubby and I went out on a bike ride. 3 miraculous things happened:
1 - I didn't fall (this is a big deal!)
2 - I didn't swear once (again  - big deal!)
3 - I didn't get mad at my husband (because my lack of biking skills are somehow his fault, right?)

Then one horrible thing happened - we saw a hUge rattle snake. Seriously. It was a MONSTER!!! I am terrified of snakes. I like to pretend that they are just myths. Anyway - it gave me the creeps!!!

So, on to sewing!

These past two weeks, I have been working on a project for my husband, who in a few weeks is taking a group of scouts canyoneering. He has a bunch of gear for each scout, and I am making utility backpacks for each set.

They are actually super easy, really useful, and pretty cute! I'll probably make one for each on my kids in fabric that is actually cute, and put up a tutorial soon!

In other projects - I have cut the sashing for my game night quilt:

And planned the sashing for the skill builders!

As soon as those bags are done, I will be sashing things up!! Yea!!!

WIPs on the 4th!

Happy Independence Day, America!!

I feel like I've gotten a lot done this week! Here we go!

Skill Builders Sampler QAL

I have FINISHED!!! All 36 blocks are done! I am so so so excited! Here are my last few:

First off, I redid block 33 - Mini Lone Star.

This one is the best of the three, but it still gave me some guff. But I really like it in these fabrics!

Block 35 - Feathered Star

I really like this block. I did the paper pieced version, and I am glad! I struggled a little getting the subunits together, especially the middle square, but - all in all - I am very happy with it!!

Block 36 - Alice's Butterfly

Hands down, my favorite block of the series! I love butterflies! And, it came together very well for me! I felt very confident sewing the curves and the Y seams. I just love how it came out! I am going to do this block again and make it into a pillow for my mother in law's birthday!

I am so glad that I did this quilt a long! I have really learned so so much! A huge THANK YOU to Leila for hosting this incredible series! And, here they are in all their glory!!

Wow. Just, wow. Now I just need to decide how get them all sewn together! :)

Beejeebers

This month's block - scrappy log cabin! ***LOVE***

Turned out cute! I hope Laura likes it!

Coming up this week - piecing the top of my game night quilt, starting a dress, and making 10 utility bags for my husbands climbing gear. Fun stuff!

Happy WIP Wednesday!! Be sure to check out all of the awesome WIPs at Freshly Pieced!

I finished the Surveyor's Compass! It was hard, but I just love how it came out!!

WIP on Wednesday!

Wow! I can't believe it's Wednesday again! I have done very little this week, sewing wise. Somehow I am only just barely keeping up with Summer activities! Yikes!! But here is what I have done:

A new tutorial: Pants to Skirt

I have put together a really fun re purposing tutorial on how to change a pair of pants into a cute skirt! I am planning to post this tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Another Tutorial: 6 Point Star, Diamond/Y seam tutorial

I have this tutorial coming up too, but I need to retake a few pictures... which of course means doing it all over. hahaha! Watch for this one next week!

Skill Builder Sampler: Mini Lone Star

This one is killing me. I don't know why. I've done it twice. Here's the first one:

It's a hot mess. None of my seams would match up, it won't lie flat, it's about an inch too small... mess. So, I redid it:

Better. Still have seam matching trouble, but it's better. I still had trouble with the center wanting to bunch up. It's now about 1/2 inch too small. I have an idea to make it work for real, so... I will be doing it a third time. lol!!

Then, I will be moving on to this week's paper piecing block of awesome: a compass block! I am really excited to try it!!

Well, that's all! Be sure to check out all of the WIPs over at Freshly Pieced!!

It's done!! I just need to get it mailed off! YAY!! Watch for pictures tomorrow!! :)

Skill Builders Sampler

I am in danger of getting behind again, but this (well, last) week's block is super cool!

Mini Lone Star
Block by Leila

Mini Lone Star! I can't wait to do this one! It looks awesome! :)

Beejeebers

Our June block is so cool. I still have to do it, but here's a look at the inspiration blocks from Oh, Fransson!

So cute!! In blues, greys, and greens!  am looking forward to getting started!

Also, I am starting to plan how I will put together my game night quilt, and how the back will be!! I am so excited!!!

A new Tutorial

I have taken pictures for a new tutorial that is super fun!! Watch for it soon! It's a repurposing tute = Pants to Skirt!! I am thrilled to share it in the next few days!!

So, there we are! Be sure to check out all of the WIPs over at Freshly Pieced!
